Trees Sketch cont.

So a bit back I posted a sketch of trees that I had drawn, and was going to use for a class project. The assignment was to use CSS Zen Garden's code and create our own style sheets to modify it.

First off, I ended up redrawing the sketch a couple of times, ultimately resulting in this:

Throw in some colour...

Then some texture.

That was for the site itself, here's a white-backed version that was used in the document for the process:

Overall, I'm rather happy with how it turned out.

Sketch

I work on campus at SDSU's school of Public Affairs. I've recently been given a printer/scanner, which is now up and running. We've been busy with various things which hasn't left me a lot of time to play with it, but today was quite slow. A bit of fiddling later, and I've got scanning!

I know now that for this scanner, I'll have to darken my lines-- There's only MS Paint here! I'm so familiar with Photoshop that it's quite strange to be using Paint. Took me a little bit just to figure out how to resize things!

But to celebrate, here's some sketches that I thought were fun. I'd like to get in the habit of posting at least once a week. I'm in the middle of finals at the moment, so we'll see how that works out. But. Having a scanner right here should help. Cheers all!

Sketch

Sketch done for a project, but I rather like it on it's own merit.

Day in the life of

It's been mostly cooler this past week with the seasons trying to move on to fall, or as much fall as we get here in Southern California.

I was going through some photos, and found a set from about two months ago, when we had this horrendous heat wave.

I had meant to post them earlier than this, but they got buried under some other things, not least of which was an internal debate as to whether or not I should post photos on this blog.

I've decided there's no real reason not to. So here they are!

This is a dead tarantula wasp. I've learned it's a good idea I didn't let the dog investigate the live ones any closer-- apparently their sting (bite?) is among the more painful insect-related experiences.

I love shadows.

Prufrock in Love

Classes have resumed. For one class, we were to create imagery to go along with a poem. My favorite poem since my forever (ok, since sometime in high school) has been The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot.

This is a lot of fun to do. It's not done, I want to tighten up on the linework, and various areas need refining, but I really like how it's coming along.

I recently gained CS4, and let me tell ya! New feature to photoshop: veiw rotation! You can turn the canvas to a more optimal angle while you're drawing, without the file saving at that rotation, much like you can do in Corel Painter. I think how Corel implements it is a little better to workflow, however; it's a keyboard shortcut, like panning or dragging, as opposed to a seperate tool, as it is in photoshop. Still, one of my biggest dislikes of drawing in photoshop has been the lack of this ability. Happiness!

Now Open!!

The website is up and fully functional! Go check it out! I even used the sketch on it:

Yay!

If you've swung by the site, you probably realized that it's under construction at the moment. I've decided to redesign it, and am working on getting everything up and functioning. In the meantime, feel free to check out my Flickr Account, or maybe hit me up on Facebook.
