The website is up and fully functional! Go check it out! I even used the sketch on it:
Yay!

If you've swung by the site, you probably realized that it's under construction at the moment. I've decided to redesign it, and am working on getting everything up and functioning. In the meantime, feel free to check out my Flickr Account, or maybe hit me up on Facebook.
Finished the preliminary inking on one of the sketches I wanted to colour.
I like to choose random colours that may have nothing to do with the end result. I'll try to make a point of choosing some hue that I'd not ordinarily use, simply because sometimes after working with it for awhile I find it's grown on me, and I can see ways of using this colour now for things I might not have before. Still needs some tweaking in various spots, but I like how it's coming along.
So today I came across the website/blog of illustrator Frank Stockton. I must say, I love his style of work. There's a tight, refined quality to his lines that is harder to find. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy the blockier, playful, and cute style that's been floating about, and that requires it's own type of ability to pull off well.
His quality of work is not the only reason why I added his site to my rss feed. Sprinkled in with updates about what he's working on and random sketches of whatever tickles his fancy is good, solid advice to anyone entering or already in the field, backed up by his own years of experience. The two that I've come across so far that truly follow this line of thought is How to get better, inspired by an email exchange from a student, and the post that brought me to his site, How to Draw from your Imagination.
So, taking a cue from the part where he shows works in progress, I'm going to post the process I take on these two sketches I'm going to colour, for fun & for practice.
Hello, internet. My name is Ana Hicks. I am an illustrator, graphic designer, and student in San Diego, California. This is my first blog post.
Well, ok, not my first. I do have a myspace, as well as a flickr account. This is going to be different, though. This is to accompany my website, www.AnaLovesDesign.com. Go ahead and check it out-- this post will still be here when you get back. I'll wait.
I thought it would be nice to update here with random sketches, show a little of what I'm working on and what not. So, why not start now?
